The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction was searching for an escaped inmate Sunday afternoon.
33 year old Roy Buff left Rutherford Correctional Center shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday during family visitation.
Rutherford Correctional Center in Spindale is a minimum-security prison for men nearing the end of their sentences.
Canine officers and Prison Emergency Response Team members captured escaped inmate Roy Buff at about 6 p.m. Sunday less than a mile from the prison at a business along Old Ballpark Road in Spindale.
Buff, is serving about three years for an assault conviction and was scheduled for release in May 2025.
He will be returned to a higher security prison facility and will face escape charges.
