Craig McCurry, age 84 of Asheville, NC, passed away at his home on May 23, 2024.
Craig was born in Green Mountain, Yancey County on December 7, 1939, as one of nine children to the late Voyd and Daisy McCurry.
After serving in the Air Force as an air traffic controller in the 1960s, Craig returned to Western North Carolina and began a long career in management at Kmart before retiring in 2005.
In his free time, he loved to tinker on and fix up cars, lawnmowers, and anything else with a motor. He was always on the search for new treasures to work on. He was an avid collector of Hot Wheels. His favorite Hot Wheels to collect were the classic cars and trucks. He passed his love of Hot Wheels on to his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for his likeable character, his no-nonsense personality, and his sarcastic wit.
Craig is preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Ann, his parents Voyd and Daisy, his brothers Cecil McCurry and Kenneth McCurry, his sister Anna Lou McCurry, and two infant brothers.
Craig is survived by his son Marc McCurry (Monica) of Leicester; his daughter, Megan Green (Karl) of Mars Hill; his grandsons, Aidan and Patrick Green of Mars Hill; his brother, James McCurry of Green Mountain; his sisters: Linda Hopson of Green Mountain and Judy Barnett (Owen), also of Green Mountain; and by many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, with a visitation at 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at the McCurry family plot in Yancey County.
