June 15 – July 20, 2024
Owen Gallery Spruce Pine

Toe River Arts Spruce Pine opens a new exhibition in their upstairs Owen Gallery of oil paintings by local artist Marobeth Ruegg. The exhibition will open on June 15th and run through July 20th and is titled Marobeth Ruegg Oil Painting: 2011-2014. There will be a meet the artist reception on Friday, June 28th, 5–7pm.

“I think of my art as my part of a call-and-response song. The illimitable beauty of the earth is the call and my paintings are my response. I have chosen not to draw or depict scenes, things, objects. I aim to grapple with something less defined than anything that can be named. Forms, colors, and lines are what suggest an underlying layer to the visible identifiable everyday material world” says Ruegg.

Ruegg has a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Denver University, where she was exposed to the world of fine art. As a teenager she encountered the works of Wassily Kandinsky in her hometown Fine Arts Center. These and other influences crystallized Ruegg’s real creative focus. After a career as a landscape designer in Asheville, NC, from 2004 to 2021 she has returned to painting.
