Betty Jean Cook Buchanan, age 86, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord and other precious family members after an extended illness at The Greens of Spruce Pine on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024.
A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Edith Willis Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lee Buchanan; infant son, Brian Keith Buchanan; brother, Charles Cook and a sister, Mary Hollifield. Betty was a Christian woman and a long-time member of Pine Branch Baptist Church.
She enjoyed sewing and cooking meals for her family. She was a kind, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister.
Surviving is her son, Greg Buchanan and wife, Wanda, of Burnsville; daughter, Sharon Mace and husband, Mike, of Marion; grandchildren: Brian, Brandy, Chasity and Nathan; great-grandchildren: Harper, Cooper and Luke and brothers: Jerry Cook of Spruce Pine, Jim Cook of Spruce Pine and Jack Cook of Gastonia. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, June 10th at Pine Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Bruce Cannon and Rev. Steve Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. prior to the services.
