Mitchell-Yancey Habitat’s First Annual Cornhole Tournament, June 15th on the Burnsville Town Square, is ready to go – RAIN or SHINE. Our boards can stand any weather as can our all-weather pellet filled toss bags. How about you? This is M-Y Habitat’s one and only fundraising event. The money raised supports our mission of getting working families into safe, affordable housing and making meaningful repairs for our elders.
To begin the day M-Y will provide youth appropriate cornhole courts ready for PATH’s Sizzlin Summer Series. Volunteers will be on hand to teach kids the game and how to keep score. Kids and their families are welcome to play for free from 10-12. Then at 12:30 the open play begins. Food trucks and music will complete the festive experience.
Here’s how the tournament is going to work. On June 15th (Father’s Day weekend!), Open Team Play starts at 12:30pm and goes until 3:00pm. Advance registration guarantees more playing time! Registration is $25 per person and everyone gets a T-shirt, while supplies last. Walkup registration will be available.
During this portion of the event, teams win by getting to or passing 21 points first, or if you have the most points after 30 minutes of play. All points are counted. If you want to play more, just get your name on the list with the person nearest you holding the clipboard. Also during this time, teams can put their names on the Open Tournament Board if they so choose.
The Open Tournament starts at 3:10pm. The winning team splits a $100 prize. The Open Tournament is single elimination, opposing points cancel each other, and the first team to reach or pass 15 points advances.
At 4:15pm the Grand Tournament begins. The Grand Tournament entry fee is $300. To make the Grand Tournament possible we need a minimum of 16 teams to register. Advance registration is important. Team names will be seen on the Grand Tournament banner at the information table on the Square. Teams are encouraged to wear team gear. The grand prize for the team winning the Grand Tournament is $300!
Teams progress in the Grand Tournament by winning 2 out of 3 games. Opposing points cancel and the game is won by reaching/passing 15 points. Teams not progressing will have one additional round of play.
