James “Herschel” Russell Ollis, age 63, of Burnsville, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 24th, 2024 at Mission Hospital.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Earl Ollis and Betty Lee Dale Ollis. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Della Dale, as well as a sister, JoAnn Eldridge.
Herschel enjoyed anything that had a loud motor, especially racing, mudslinging and any equipment. He enjoyed days riding his side-by-side and watching WWE wrestling.
Herschel was a kind soul who had never met a stranger, always willing to share anything he had. He could light up a room the moment he walked into it, and will always be remembered as a very special person with the biggest heart.
He is survived by one brother, Dallas Ollis and wife, Christy of Burnsville; four nieces: Lee Ann Wynn, Christina Calloway (Shian), Deborah Houston (Bob) and Laura Burkhalter; one nephew, Nathan Burkhalter (Morgan); one great-niece, Michaela Calloway; and three great-nephews: McKinley Houston, Michael Dallas Calloway and Lucas Houston. He is also survived by a number of cousins and friends.
Family and friends are welcome to drop by his home at 702 West Glendale Avenue in Burnsville.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
