Children and youth do not choose to come into foster care; they come into foster care due to circumstances outside of their control. Children should not have to bear the additional burden of having to leave their schools, friends and home community to be placed out of county, because we don’t have the foster homes needed to care for them here. Only through working together as a community will we be able to keep the children from Mitchell County placed in foster homes in Mitchell County.
Mitchell County DSS hopes by bringing this movie to the community it will help everyone understand the need to be there for those most vulnerable, the children involved with neglect or abuse. There is a great need for more foster and adoptive families, families who can care for teens or sibling groups, or families who would like to be available to provide emergency or respite care.
Mitchell County DSS works with individuals or couples, at least 21 years of age, to complete training and become licensed as part of our foster home family. They are able to be flexible to meet the scheduling needs of applicants in the training and licensing process, and provide ongoing support to the families.
