A Walk Through Mitchell County History: An America 250 Project

Everyone interested in Mitchell County history, especially that related to the Revolutionary War are invited to attend a presentation hosted by the Mitchell County Historical Society in collaboration with the Overmountain Victory NC Trails-Friends.

On September 3, at 7 pm, Starli McDowell, Executive Director of the Overmountain Victory North Carolina State Trails-Friends and Chair of the Mitchell County America 250 Commission, along with Dan Barron, Chair of the Historical Society and Commission member, will provide an overview of Mitchell County’s involvement in the America 250 North Carolina recognition effort.

The event, taking place at the Mitchell County Senior Citizens Center, will focus on the county’s participation in the nationwide America 250 initiative, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence. The presentation will highlight various aspects of Mitchell County’s history, including a special focus on the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail and its significance to the region.

During the event, attendees will learn about the importance of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, its connection to the Toe River Valley, and its role within the North Carolina Trails Program. In addition, McDowell and Barron will discuss the future plans for the trail and its impact on Mitchell County.
