Jerry M. Buchanan, Sr., age 80, of the Bear Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024.
A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late David Buchanan, Jr. and Helen Howell Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Powell Buchanan, who passed away in 2019 and an infant brother, Ronnie Buchanan.
Jerry was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church who worked at Spruce Pine Community Hospital for many years. He was an avid fisherman.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Sandra Ball Buchanan; his children: Mike Buchanan and wife, Johnie, of Asheville, Darla “Sis” Kegley and husband, Victor, of Mt. Mitchell and Brandon Buchanan and wife, Daphne, of Bolens Creek; grandchildren: Jeremy Buchanan and wife, Marissa, Kearstin Buchanan, Nathaniel Buchanan, Jerod Buchanan and Tiffany Downer and husband, Alex; great-grandchildren: Kelci, Kambry, Lexi, Laken and Kendrix and sisters: Sue Aswell and husband, Robert, of Wentworth and Linda Hopson and husband, Ralph, of Fork Mountain. Special family member, Michelle Garrison and husband, Tommy, along with other nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 7th at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Bruce Cannon and Rev. Chris Rathbone will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
