(Press release from Yancey County)

Yancey County Government has been selected as a recipient of two bike racks and one public work stand to further promote equitable biking access in Burnsville, at no cost. This a free initiative provided by the NC Division of Public Health to increase opportunities for physical activity, while promoting access to essential services and amenities within the community.

The anticipated placement of the amenities includes one bike rack, and public work stand at the new Community Resource Center (current Farmers’ Market location), and the second bike rack at the recently renovated Ray Cort Park. Providing a public work stand provides the necessary tools to perform basic bike repairs and adjustments, not something currently available to the citizens. All amenities are currently in the process of installation, and will be available for use soon.

Once in place, The NC Division of Public Health would love to hear from those able to make use of these amenities, and how they might have made an impact for you or someone you know. If you feel led to share your experience or provide a picture; please send that to Yancey County Project Manager, Morgan West at Morgan.West@yanceycountync.gov.

“These amenities provided to Yancey County will ensure the citizens have another opportunity to access needed services and recreation safely if alternative modes of transportation are being utilized,” said Lynn Austin, County Manager.
