Kenneth Ray, Kenny to some, age 74 of Burnsville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 20, 2024. Kenneth was born June 1, 1950, in Marion, NC, to the late Glenn and Velma Brown Ray. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his son, Shannon Ray and his brother, Danny Ray.
Kenny and his loving wife, Dinah, were married for 21 1/2 years. During these years they shared love and laughter, as well as a love of country dancing. In years prior to meeting Dinah, Kenny was part of a country dance group that sometimes performed on the Burnsville Town Square. Besides dancing, he also loved gardening, taking his 1958 Edsel to Antique Car Shows, cooking, baking, spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his beloved dogs and cats. Along with the many things Kenneth held near and dear to his heart, was a profound connection to his WNC home. No other place he ever went lived up to his desire to return to the Black Mountain Range of the Appalachian Mountains.
He leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his wife, Dinah Ray; sister Glenna Taylor (Carlton); brother, David Mickey Ray (Rita); daughter, Cynthia Mahan; stepson, Justin Thieda; stepdaughters, Alison Graves and Elizabeth Thieda; grandchildren, Chelsea, JD, and Crystal; step grandchildren, Autumn, Adeline and Lorelei; great grandchildren, Bella, Cyrus, Octovia, Alijah, Willow and Ivy; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He loved all of them greatly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31st, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, NC.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the Compassionate Care Palliative and Hospice Teams, the Church of God of Prophecy family, and especially to nephew, Brian Ray for physical and emotional support during Kenneth’s extended illness.
