Fifteen days ago, when Hurricane Helene hit, I sounded the alarm for help, and sheriffs and their teams from across the state came running. These deputies have been nothing short of heroes, working alongside us day and night. They’ve rescued those in need, cleared trees, delivered supplies, and stepped up in ways too numerous to count.
While we’ve made great strides, there is still plenty of work to do, and these deputies will continue to stand by us as we rebuild and recover. I cannot thank them enough for their dedication and service. Yancey County is stronger because of them, and we are deeply grateful.
Let’s continue supporting one another and working toward full recovery. If you see these out-of-county deputies around, please thank them for all they’ve done. We are forever in their debt.
