Ella Mae Duvall Bailey

Ella Mae Duvall Bailey, age 85 of Sweet Creek Road in Bakersville passed away Sunday October 13, 2024, at her daughters’ home.

Born in Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Noah and Lucy Hoilman DuVall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother Jimmy Lee DuVall and a brother Paul DuVall.

Ella Mae held numerous jobs in her life, besides being a mother and wife, she worked at Western Steer Steakhouse in Spruce Pine for seventeen years being the people person she was there she got to know and make many friends. She also worked at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital for several years, she was an avid blood donor, in the time she worked there.

Ella Mae loved to travel with her husband Isaac. They took many trips; she loved going on cruises. They traveled out West and also to Switzerland. These were joyous times for her. She cherished the time she spent with her daughter, going shopping and eating out. Spending time with her sisters was a big part of her life as well. Ella Mae’s family was of the utmost importance to her, she loved each and every one of them. During her illness, one thing that brought her joy was taking those long rides with her special buddy. She leaves behind a legacy of love and a void that can never be filled.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her husband Isaac Bailey of Green Mountain, her daughter Phyllis Canipe and fiancé Bart Greene of the home, Step daughter, Kathy Clark and husband Aaron of Greenville, SC a step grandson Triston Clark of Greenville, SC and four sisters, Anna Rae Burleson, Louetta Callahan (Mack), Billie June Callahan (Ned) and Mary Bell Callahan all of Bakersville, eleven nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ella Mae Bailey will be at 2:00 pm Thursday October 17, 2024, at the Fork Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Jonathon McKinney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Bailey Memorial Cemetery.

The family would like to extend it thanks to Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge for their continued care of Ella Mae during her illness. And to her two caregivers, Pam Yelton and Nikki Briggs who became a part of her family and gave her such special care.
