George Andrew Sanford, age 59 of Burnsville, NC, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Born on January 7, 1965, he was the son of the late George Luis Sanford and Barbara Ann Hilyard Sanford. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Scott Sanford; sisters: Paula Karnacki and Janet Sims; and half-brother, Mark Lehman.
George’s nicknames, Santa and Superman, fit him well. He always had children run up to him, calling him “Santa” and asking for presents, and he never turned them away. In that way, he was “Superman”. He loved hunting, fishing, motorcycles, and telling tales of his days fixing trains and things he did as a child. He could both make you laugh and frustrate you in the same minute. He valued family and hard work, but more than anything, he was overwhelmed with pride for his beautiful daughter, Seanna. He never knew a stranger and would talk to anyone with ears to listen. He was loved by many, and he will be truly missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Sarah Ogden Sanford; daughter, Seanna (Julien Brown) Sanford; sister-in-law, Kara Sanford; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Joseph Marotta; friend, Carolyn Seely Sanford; nephews: Zack (Jessen Giles) Marotta, DJ (Caylea) Marotta, and Nick (Stormy Mead) Marotta; brothers: Terry (Lisa) Sanford, and Mark Sanford; step-brother, John Lehman; sister, Trudy (Ray) Hulburt; step-sister, Connie (Randy) Diapiece; niece, Kay Buckingham; three great-nieces: Lily Marotta, Rosie Marotta, and Liberty Marotta; and one great nephew, Jace Marotta.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
