In Election returns the Incumbents won the local races in Yancey County. For the Board of Commissioners, the top 3 vote getters were Mark Ledford with 5970 votes, Jeff Whitson 5540, and Sandi Norton with 4909. Brandi Buckner Young received 4766, Hillary Mandy Young 4286 and Jim Parlier 3930.

The incumbents also won on the Board of Education. Cody Whitson, Will Hensley and Edwin Fortner were the top 3 voted for. Cody Whitson received 5486, Will Hensley 5317, Edwin Fortner 5293. John Stallings had 4918, Kim Higgins 4897 and Lavenia Peterson Burnette 4363.

In Mitchell County there were also 6 on the County Commissioner Ballot and the 3 top voted in were Dale Blevins, Lee Ellis and incumbent Harley Masters. Dale Blevins had 5655, Lee Ellis 5402, Harley Masters 4740, Bill Hoag 2502, Ron McKinney 1527 and Jan Hamilton 1467.

Voter turnout was high. Overall, in Mitchell County, just over 77% of the County voted. In Yancey County 77.6% voted.

In other races that included votes from Mitchell and Yancey County, incumbent Chuck Edwards captured 57% of the vote in the House of Representatives District 11 race.

NC House District 85 includes Avery, McDowell, Mitchell and Yancey Counties and Dudley Greene captured 74% of the vote over John Ford.

State Senate District 47 includes Avery, Mitchell, Yancey and 6 other Counties. Ralph Hise received 64% of the vote over Frank Patton Hughes III.
