Mitchell Wrestling Announces Hurricane Relief Match

Mitchell High Wrestling is proud to announce our participation in “Wrestling Bridges The Gap”. This Hurricane Relief effort spearheaded by the US Wrestling Foundation is an effort to raise funds as well as awareness to support the long term rebuilding and recovery efforts in parts of Western NC devastated by Hurricane Helene. Proceeds from the gate from the match vs. South Caldwell and Christ School will go to support the rebuilding of bridges across the region. Donations will also be accepted.

Hurricane Helene was one of the worst natural disasters to ever hit the United States. It left an enormous path of destruction, including many people and communities cut off from the outside world, in large part because BRIDGES were destroyed by the flooding.

Wrestlers know a thing or two about bridging. It’s what you do in the worst situations on a mat. Wrestlers know when life puts you on your back, you’ve got to fight to get back on your feet.

Taking these lessons learned from sport, the high school and collegiate wrestling community is coming together to help raise funds to provide as many as 100 bridges to the people and towns affected by Hurricane Helene in Western NC. The project, spearheaded by the US Wrestling Foundation, is called “Bridging The Gap“, and has a goal to help purchase and install prefabricated bridges so people can get reconnected to the outside world and resume more normal day to day routines.

The project asks middle schools, high schools and colleges to designate one home match this season as a HURRICANE RELIEF MATCH. You can support this cause by simply attending one of these matches in your local community. In addition to proceeds from the events, anyone can donate to the project through the project website . To donate or learn more visit our website at https://uswrestlingfoundation.org/events/hurricane-relief-match/
