Donald Ray Wilson, age 83, of Busick, went to see Jesus and his family on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Walter and Dollie Wilson. He was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law: Gary Hollifield and Steve Brewer and sisters-in-law: Maudie Nanney and Michelle Letterman.
Donald was a devoted member of Browns Creek Baptist Church at the time of his passing. He was previously a member of Mt. Mitchell Baptist Church until 2012. Donald had many passions but the love for his family was always at the forefront. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His warm smile and caring presence will be missed by all who knew him.
Donald was always fond of working with his tractor. However, it was his love for driving his dump truck that truly brought him joy. He took great pride in his work and found satisfaction in a hard day’s work.
He was always an avid lover of the outdoors and camping, often finding happiness around a campfire with friends or simply enjoying quiet moments with his family.
Surviving is his loving wife of 61 years, Myril Wilson; sons: Allen Wilson and wife, Sandy, and Scott Wilson and wife, Karen; grandchildren: Cory Wilson, Jeri Wilson, Steven Wilson (Kayla), Dakota Wilson (Sydney), C.J. Wilson and Dustin Ray; great-grandchildren: Kamron, Kahlen, Kolton, Tianna, Noah and Anna; sisters: Doris Huskins (Ricky), Judy Chrisawn (Claude) and Carolyn Brewer; brothers-in-law: Mark Greene (Cathy) and Mike Greene (Kathy). Several other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Shane Buchanan and Rev. Forrest Westall will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery on Seven Mile Ridge.
Donald’s legacy will forever live on through his family, his faith and many memories he created with those who knew and loved him. To send online condolences, please visit our website at www.yanceyfuneralservice.com.
