Geraldine Sutton Buchanan, age 88, of the Spear Community, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, December 23rd, 2024.
Born in Sevier County, TN on November 21st, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Cleophas and Stella Norris Sutton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Liza Jane Buchanan; an infant grandson, Richard Nicholas Hurt; and a sister, Archie Sayre.
She was a retired elementary school teacher from the Avery County Schools and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spruce Pine.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 67 years, Douglas Buchanan; daughter, Eve Hurt, and son, Thomas Buchanan (Lori), all of the Spear Community; two grandchildren: Ian Hurt and Crystal Hurt (Judge); one great-grandchild, Lillian Hurt; as well as her siblings: Wanda Calloway, Glenn Sutton (Carolyn), Dexter Sutton, Tommie Sutton (Cathy) and Donnie Sutton (Rosa).
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 31st, 2024 at 2 p.m. at the Clark Cemetery in Crossnore, NC with Rev. Michael Poulos officiating.
