Robin Warden

Robin Warden, 74, died Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, Spruce Pine, North Carolina.

Robin was born in 1950 at Fort Lewis, Washington.  She was raised in a military family, providing her the opportunity to spend her childhood in various places through the United States and Europe.  A graduate of Marquette University, she earned her Master’s degree and PH.D. from the University of Wisconsin.  As a Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Special Education, she served as department chairperson and faculty member teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

In 2006, Robin and her husband, Jim Waters, moved to North Carolina.  She served on the Mitchell-Yancey Habitat Board, involved in fundraising, grant writing and community outreach.  As an avid supporter of the arts, she curated a major exhibition, “50 Years in Glass”, for the Toe River Arts Council.

Robin is survived by her husband, Jim Waters; his children: Patrick (Carly) Waters, Megan (Pablo) Bernal, and his grandchildren; sisters: Marcia (Don) Gabriel, and Nancy (Kirk) Doerring; several nieces, nephews, and many treasured friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jane Warden, and her sister, Tara Warden.

Known to her family as the “Do Something Sister”, whenever there was a gathering she was the first one to shout out, “Let’s do something”.  Adventures and colorful experiences ensued, and so, she leaves us all with many special memories of her life filled with joy, laughter, and creativity.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
