Junior Shuford, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully to his Heavenly Home at the age of 82 on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 at Mission Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Stanley and Zora Lane Shuford.  He was preceded in death as well by four brothers, Wilford Lee Shuford, Richard Daniel Shuford and James “Jim” Ray Shuford, and infant brother, Aften Dale Shuford; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Brinton and Myrtle Hollifield; sisters-in-law:  Sandra Kay Jarvis Shuford, Irene Blevins Shuford and Kathleen Fender Shuford; and brothers-in-law:  Ray Hollifield, Gary Hollifield, Junior Wilson and Bill Bailey.

Junior was a well-respected man of the South Toe Community with a kind heart and generous spirit, always greeting everyone with a smile.  He was well known as a very talented welder and fabricator for many years, and loved singing while he worked.  He also loved gardening and always enjoyed family dinners together.  Junior was a dedicated man of faith who studied his Bible, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and was a deacon and Sunday School superintendent.  He took great joy in being with his church family, as well as his own family.  His greatest accomplishment in life was his family and the love he had for his wife, children and grandsons.  He took great pleasure in watching his grandsons play ball, and loved working with them.  Junior was loved by so many friends and family, and his departure will leave a great void in the lives of so many who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life for 61 wonderful years, Viola Hollifield Shuford; his two children:  Samanthia McIntosh and husband, William, and Kevin Shuford and wife, Amy, all of Burnsville; four grandsons: Seth McIntosh (Megan) of Erwin, TN, Jacob Shuford (Hayley) of Spruce Pine, Adam Shuford (Kaitlyn) of Marshall, and Isaac Shuford (Mariah) of Burnsville; two brothers: Martin Shuford of Micaville and Troy (Fran) Shuford of Marion; two sisters:  Lillian Shuford Huskins of South Toe and Linda Hendricks (John) of Spruce Pine; and two sisters-in-law: Beulah Bailey of Seven Mile Ridge and Shirley Wilson of Seven Mile Ridge.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18th at Yancey Funeral Services.  Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Stacy Elkins and Rev. Jeff Fox officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date due to the weather.  Pallbearers will be Seth McIntosh, Jacob Shuford, Adam Shuford, Isaac Shuford, Andrew Shuford, Doyle Shuford and Brady Bailey.
