Rodney Alvin Young, age 82, of the Ledger community in Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 15, 2025 after a twenty-two year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Carrie Willis Young, two brothers and five sisters.
Mr. Young retired in 1992 from the Military Sea Lift Command which is connected with the U.S. Navy. He then went to work on the Great Lakes with Oglebay Norton in 1994 and continued working there until 2002.
In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking, being outdoors on picnics, camping, and being with his family and playing croquet. He especially loved playing video games with his step grandson, Kyle.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of thirty-seven years; Sandra Tipton Young, step daughter; Kristal Riddle and Scotty Stevens, step grandson, Kyle Hyder and wife, Makayla, and one-year old step great grandson, Atlas Rook Hyder.
