Floyd “Poochie” Ayers, age 83, of the Snow Creek Community, fell asleep peacefully at his home and woke up in the arms of Jesus on February 16th, 2025. He was born on August 2nd, 1941 to the late Crawford and Lou Mae Bailey Ayers. He was preceded in death by the love of his life whom he called “Sug”, Mrs. Thelma Lee Edwards Ayers, who passed away on June 14th, 2016. They were united in marriage on January 1st, 1960 and were married for 56 years. Floyd was also preceded in death by sisters: Marie Ayers Laws, Tilda Ayers Bennett and Mary Lee Ayers Masters; brothers: Vernal Ayers, Hobert Ayers, Ott Ayers, Tom Ayers, Jack Ayers, Jerry Ayers, Boyd Ayers, and an infant brother, as well as an infant great-grandson, Micaiah Ledford.
Mr. Ayers is survived by his sister, Betty Lou Stump; his children: Richard Ayers (Venita), Wayne Ayers (Cricket), Carolyn Wallace (Keith) and Amie Ledford (Bill); as well as his grandchildren: Kayla Pate (Joe), Keith Ayers, Joey Ayers, Dillon Ayers, Issac Ayers (Maggie), Jeremiah Ayers (Katlyn), Vanessa McIntosh (Jeremy), Shane Wallace (Michaela), Dakota Ledford (Ginger), Lily Schell (Harley), Grace Gwyn (Tylor), and M.J. Ledford. Great-grandchildren include Remington, Makenlie and Ellie Pate, Keaton and Kyla Ayers, Taylor and Waylon Thomas, Kaydee, Shayleigh, Landon and Landri McIntosh, Braydon and Chloee Wallace, Mia Ledford, Tanner Fields, Cooper, Colton and Cayson Schell, and Everlee and Madilyn Gwyn.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Billy Ledford and Rev. Marvin Hensley will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26th at Will Hughes Cemetery on Charlie Deyton Road. Pallbearers will be Floyd’s grandsons: Keith, Joey, Dillion, Issac and Jeremiah Ayers, Dakota and M.J. Ledford, Shane Wallace, Tanner Fields and Remington Pate.
