Carolyn Burrell Penland, age 76, of Horton Creek, went Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at her home. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Altha Norton Burrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Keith Penland, who passed away in 2008; sister, Gladys Arrington; brother, Kenneth Burrell and an infant brother.
Carolyn loved to shop, always talking because she never met a stranger and enjoyed being with her family. She was always singing gospel songs, talking about her Lord and Savior, and was a proud member of Middle Fork Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Tim Penland and fiancée, Alexandra, of Prices Creek; daughter, Crystal Roberts and husband, Brian, of Simms Fork; grandsons: Trey Penland of Burnsville, Nicholas Roberts and wife, Tiffany, of Burnsville and Samuel Roberts also of Burnsville; granddaughters: Tricia Penland of Burnsville, and Heather Zimmerman and husband, William, of Shelton Laurel; great-grandchildren: Aubrey Roberts, Zachary Zimmerman and Kinsley Zimmerman. Several other extended family also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Chris Burrell will officiate. Burial will be in the Metcalf Cemetery on Horton Creek.
