Roger “Papa” Woody

Papa Woody, age 60, of Green Mountain, went Home to be with the Lord  on Thursday, February 20th, 2025.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of Charles Woody of Green Mountain and the late Norma Wyatt Woody.

Roger was a lifelong member of Double Island Baptist Church.   He enjoyed raising his chickens, loved life, his Lord and his church family.  His greatest joy was his grandkids. One thing the family will always remember is that he always loved the song Amazing Grace, “When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we’d first be-gun.”

Left to cherish Papa Woody’s memory is his loving wife of 38 years, Karen Woody; children: Nathan Woody, Victoria Woody and Kendra Blevins (Tristan); grandchildren: Colton Woody, Jesse Woody, Maci Basnight and Eli “Tater” Basnight; several nephews and other extended family members also survive.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
