Larry Presnell, age 81, of the Blue Rock Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 24th, 2025. A native of Alleghany County, he was a son of the late Nineveh Graden and Ladybird Presnell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Presnell, and two brothers, Jimmy and Terry Presnell.
Larry loved the Lord and was a devoted member of Windom Baptist Church. When asked by anyone how he was doing or how his day was going, he would always smile and say, “Blessed every day.” He loved reading Louis L’Amour books, watching the Carolina Tarheels play basketball, and drinking his coffee. After he retired, he drove a school bus for Burnsville Elementary School for six years, and was affectionately known there as “Rubber Ducky”. His family was incredibly important to him, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids, and the love he had for them knew no bounds. He will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in each of them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jane Robinson Presnell; his sons and daughters: Bubba Presnell (Tamara) of Blue Rock, Lacey Wyland (Justin) of Savannah, GA, Whitney Ford of Tennessee, Kendrick Presnell of Swannanoa, and Shonda Nelson (Lee) of Morganton; three grandchildren: Sarah and Hannah Presnell of Spruce Pine and Autumn Presnell of Seattle; thirteen great-grandchildren: Ace, Asher, Zane, Lilia, Wesson, Jerry, Derrick, Donovan, Jameson, Zeus, Amelia, Nelia and Evangeline; a brother, Ronnie Presnell; two sisters: Joyce Walker and Dixie Meadows; and special friends, Wayne and Doris Ballard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Randall Robinson and Pastor Adam Brewer will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5th in the Blue Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kendrick Presnell, Jalon Brooks, Justin Wyland, Craig Howell, J.D. Laws and Lance Garland.
