Judith Williams

Judith Williams, age 76, of Spruce Pine, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Mission Memorial Hospital. Born in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry Furlong and Dorothy Matilda Miller Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law.

Judy was a graduate of Easton High School in Easton, Maryland.  She received her three-year nursing degree from Church Home and Hospital School of Nursing, and her B.S. degree in nursing from Winston-Salem State University.  She had a lifetime career in nursing which included serving as an O.R. nurse at Johns Hopkins and as Director of Nursing at Spruce Pine Hospital.  However, her favorite job was being a Nana.

Judy enjoyed reading and crocheting.  She decorated beautiful cakes that she graciously shared with many.  Judy had a green thumb and created indoor gardens at all of her homes.  Her love of cooking and baking provided food and fellowship for family times together.

Judy participated in multiple church congregations over the years.  She was a member of Spruce Pine First Baptist Church, where she loved her BSF Bible study and Sunday school class.  She enjoyed singing in the choir and playing hand bells.  Judy’s greatest love was her faith and family.  She could always be found supporting her children and grandchildren at events and games.  Judy will be missed by everyone, but her legacy will live through the many lives she touched.  As Nana would say, “Catch the hug.”

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Melvyn Douglas Williams; three children:  Duane Williams (Sarah) of Lexington, NC, Ginger Williams of Archdale, NC,  and Daron Williams (Natalie) of Burnsville, NC; seven grandchildren:  Anlie Williams, Eva Williams, Zackery Crites, Haiden Crites, Jacee Williams, Jentsen Williams and Janna Williams; one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 3rd in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Rev. William Sowers will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the services.
