George Bruce Morgan, age 88, of Morgan Lane in Bakersville, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025 at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.
Born on January 11, 1937 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late George Bruce Morgan, Sr. and the late Mary Baker Morgan. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Robert Morgan.
George opened Morgan Oil Company in 1977 and had been the owner for forty-eight years. He was a member of Roan Mountain Baptist Church. He was a member of Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 for fifty-nine years and was a charter member of Mountaineer Shrine Club. He was also a charter member of the Bakersville Fire Department and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He was an antique enthusiast and an avid historian. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed telling them stories that were often almost unbelievable. He enjoyed socializing with his friends and traveling. On any trip that took, he always tried to incorporate some travel by train. He also enjoyed antique cars and old vintage pictures.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of fifty-five years; Sue Morgan of the home, his sons; Tom Morgan and wife, Yvette of Bakersville, Robbie Morgan and wife, Priscilla of Bakersville, and Greg Morgan and wife, Maria of Haines City, FL, his grandchildren; Jessica, James, Samantha, Seth, Jacob, Olivia and Stefanie, and his great grandchildren; Ryder, Kyler, Garret, Gunner, Layla, and Alfred.
A time to share memories, support the family and receive friends will be on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Roan Mountain Baptist Church. The service honoring the life of George Morgan will be on Friday, March 7, 2024 at 1:30 pm at Roan Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Tim Fowler and Russell McKinney officiating. Interment will be in the Bakersville Memorial Cemetery with masonic graveside rites provided by, Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 A.F. & A.M.
All visitors that attend the funeral are encouraged to drive your antique care in honor of George.
