Hurricane Helene left lasting impacts on Yancey and Mitchell Counties, but we still lack a full picture of how families were affected and what’s needed to support recovery and future preparedness—especially in terms of physical and mental health.
That’s where you come in! SEARCH (Sustaining Essential and Rural Community Healthcare) needs 35-40 volunteers to help conduct a “CASPER” survey in late April or May 2025. Working in teams, volunteers will visit randomly selected households over two days to conduct brief, structured interviews. No experience needed—we’ll provide training.
Your participation will help local organizations secure funding, improve disaster response, and ensure community voices shape future recovery efforts. SEARCH is conducting this CASPER survey in collaboration with the Center for Disaster Research at the University of Delaware to make sure it is conducted in a statistically acceptable manner, but we need help from community members to make this project a success.
