Jerry Laws

Jerry Laws, age 65, of Green Mountain, passed away on Saturday, April 5th, 2025, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late James Grant and Kate Deyton Laws.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gary Laws.

Jerry’s love for cheering on the Boston Celtics and favorite player, Larry Bird, as well as the Dallas Cowboys with his sisters was a testament to the power of family bonding (Go Cowboys!).  He delighted in sharing precious moments with his nieces and nephews, whether through playing checkers, shooting hoops, or “clobbering” everyone in a fun game of cornhole.  He had a passion for gardening, was a green thumb, loved music, and will always be remembered as a great person.  He and his son “Bear” shared an affinity for Ford Mustangs.  Every day was made sweeter with ice cream for all!

Surviving is his son, Terry Laws, of Pensacola; a very special little boy who called him D.D.; brother, Carlie Laws and wife, Jerelene, of Green Mountain; sisters:  Sheila Austin and husband, Royce, of Burnsville, Debbie Thacker and husband, Bill, of Green Mountain, and Rhonda Ledford and husband, Larry, of Marion.  Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12th in the Deyton/Bailey Cemetery.  Rev. Rickie Bennett and Christian Swann will officiate.  Pallbearers will be:  Terry Laws, Eric Thacker, Grant Silver, Brent Laws, Royce Austin and Bill Thacker.
