Charles Nickey “Nick” Sparks

Charles Nickey “Nick” Sparks of Stockbridge, GA passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. Nick was born May 4, 1943 in Mitchell County, NC to Homer & Mamie Ellis Sparks. Nick graduated from Harris High School in May 1961. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Polly Ann “Anita” Sparks Ray & Nancy Sparks Angel.

Nick is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of Stockbridge, his children – Jill Sparks of Asheville, NC, Amy Sparks Hermann of Wilmington, NC, and Brad Sparks (Maureen) of El Segundo, CA, his brother-in-law, Claburn Angel of Burnsville, NC, & his grandchildren – Olympia, Frida, Eli, Hannah, Sydney, Jacob, Ben, Carter & Emily, as well as, several nieces, nephews, & cousins.

Nick enjoyed a career in the trucking industry, working for Colonial Motor Freight, Bowman Transportation & Old Dominion Freight Line. Nick wore many hats during his life.  Nick was a member of the Yaarab Shrine – driving his little red truck in the motor corps & the Mountain Park Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed working in his garden, eating tomatoes, and the gift of gab – always ready to spend time chatting in person or on the phone.  Nick traveled extensively to places such as Australia, Japan, South Africa, Canada, Mexico, Europe and most of the states in the US. Nick was especially fond of national Parks worldwide & had quite a collection of caps & hats to reflect his adventures.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Dignity Funeral Home (Horis Ward) on Fairview Rd in Stockbridge. The Family will receive visitors from 11:00am – 1:00pm before the service. Interment Fairview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jim Hancock, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nick’s honor can be made to Bethel Methodist Church, 245 Fairview Rd, Stockbridge, GA 30281

A reception for all will be held immediately afterward in the fellowship hall across the street at Bethel Methodist Church.
