Crossnore Exceeds Goal of Promise of Home Campaign

Crossnore Communities for Children—with locations in Winston-Salem, Crossnore, and Hendersonville, NC—has exceeded the goal of its The Promise of Home comprehensive campaign. The campaign, which began October 1, 2021, and concluded on December 31, 2024, had a goal of $41 million. The actual amount raised was more than $53 million (130% of the campaign goal) and garnered 100% participation from Crossnore’s board of trustees and the campaign cabinet.

The Promise of Home campaign included the largest gift commitment in Crossnore’s history, an $8 million anonymous pledge. Money raised through the campaign will provide funding for three key areas: capital renovations, expansion of programs, and everyday operating essentials. A significant portion of the campaign funding focuses on Crossnore program expansion, which includes Homebuilders® Family Preservation Services, the Bridging Families© professional foster care model, and Crossnore’s Center for Trauma Resilient Communities.

“We are incredibly grateful for everyone who made contributions,” said Crossnore CEO Brett A. Loftis, JD. “Innovation in child welfare is more important than ever, and it requires continued financial investment to champion the well-being of children and families. As we work to build resilience in homes, schools, and communities, growth spurs more growth, and we are excited for what’s to come.”

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services awarded Crossnore the Homebuilders® Family Preservation Services state contract to serve all of Region 3, which includes 15 counties: Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Durham, Forsyth, Guilford, Orange, Person, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Surry, Stokes, and Yadkin. Homebuilders® provides intensive, in-home crisis intervention, counseling, and life-skills education for families who have children at imminent risk of placement in state-funded care.

Crossnore’s innovative Bridging Families© program has also been selected as North Carolina’s first and only professional foster parenting model, having established 11 Bridging Families homes within Crossnore’s three service regions so far. The Bridging Families program is a family-focused and team-based model of care designed to directly address the obstacles to family reunification. Crossnore received more than $9 million in campaign funding specifically for the Bridging Families expansion and new Bridging Families Institute© to grow the program and partner with other organizations to train and implement Bridging Families throughout North Carolina.

Crossnore continues to raise funds for two capital projects, the Anderson Academy charter school and permanent office space for its Hendersonville location. Anderson Academy is a new trauma-informed community charter school located on Crossnore’s Winston-Salem campus. The Academy will open its doors in August 2025 to grades K-4, adding 5th grade in 2026. By 2027, the school will serve some 180 students in grades K-8. Crossnore anticipates the unveiling of its fully renovated, first permanent office location in Hendersonville in May 2025, laying down permanent roots in the region to grow its program offerings and expand community impact.

“We are grateful for every single campaign contribution, small and large, that made this campaign a success,” campaign co-chair and Crossnore board secretary Katheryn Northington said. “The additional revenue we raised allows us to renovate the gymnasium, which was not included in the original campaign goal, and complete school construction on schedule despite the exceptional inflation in building costs since the campaign began. While we have successfully completed this campaign, the needs of vulnerable children and families remain—our annual fundraising provides critical support for an ever-increasing number of children who are either already in or at risk of entering the child welfare system. We are steadfast in our commitment to improving the child welfare system and ensuring every child has a family and a community that can support them—your investment in Crossnore helps us bring that vision to life!”
