Yancey County is administering a state-funded, FEMA-backed volunteer buyout program for properties affected by storms. Homeowners can apply online through the North Carolina Department of Emergency Management’s Hazard Mitigation website, print the application, and submit it to the county. The state will assess properties and offer to purchase them at pre-storm market value. Applications are open until October 31st. This program helps fill gaps left by FEMA, especially for second homes and rental properties.
