Edward Lee Johnson

Edward Lee Johnson, age 81, of the Bakersville Community, entered into eternal rest on Easter Sunday, April 20th, 2025, at Rose Hill  Retirement Community. A native of Mitchell County, he is a son of the late Herman and Eva Renfro  Johnson. He is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bob Robinson, Jr.

Edward was a deacon at Mine Creek Baptist Church.  He retired from Henredon Furniture after 26 years of service.  He then began Christmas tree farming, namely Fraser firs.  He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and gardening.  More importantly, he loved his family deeply and enjoyed every moment he got to spend with them, especially his granddaughter, Allie, whom he loved dearly.

Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years,  Martha Hoilman Johnson of Bakersville; daughter, Connie Robinson of Spruce Pine; son, Chris Johnson, and wife, Angie of Bakersville; one granddaughter, Allie Johnson of Bakersville; and one brother, James Johnson and wife, Frances of Spruce Pine. He is survived as well by several extended family members.

A private family service will be held with Rev. Mark McKinney officiating with private burial to follow.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Rose Hill Retirement Community and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for the wonderful care given to Edward.  The family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothhills at 374 Hudlow Rd., Forest City, NC  28043, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
