Charles Statler, age 88, of Bakersville Community went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. He was a son of the late Charles and Hattie Cecil Statler. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Cherry Greene Statler; along with a brothers: Jim, Lawrence and J.C.; sister, Judy and grandsons: John Dale and Dalton.
Charles served his country proudly for 22 years in the Air Force, and even in later years he served as Post Master in Spruce Pine and helped with the D.A.V. as well. He loved his country. Charles was known around the Bakersville Community as “Paw Charles” to almost everyone. He never met a stranger and loved everyone, he was very much a people person. Charles loved his family more than anything, he would take his kids and grandkids on fishing trips. Would even take his grandkids to school. He enjoyed taking them all fishing and teaching them how it was done, those are all precious memories that will live on with the rest of the family for years.
Surviving are his two daughters: Debbie Greene (Terry) of Bakersville, NC and Michele Statler of Asheville, NC; grandkids: Crystal Putman (Wayne) of Bakersville, Terry Greene (Beth) of Green Mountain; great-grandkids: Hayley Shuford (Jacob) of Spruce Pine, Kylie Greene of Green Mountain, Nova Wyatt of Johnson City, TN., Asher Lane Greene and Bailey Mae Greene both of Green Mountain; there is one great-great grandkid on the way due in November; brother, Charles; sisters: T.J. Butler (Carl), Becky Whitmire, Melissa Statler all of California and Linda Statler of Washington State. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 30 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services with Pastors Danny Silvers and Randy Wise officiating. Burial will follow in the Bakersville Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Terry Greene, Kylie Greene, Wayne Putman, Jacob Shuford, Ethan Putman, Greg Burleson, Charles Vines, Chuck Vines and Rodger Tholen. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
