Dennis Keith McClellan, age 71, of Hendersonville and Ingalls, went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2025. He is preceded in death by his father, Roland Samuel McClellan Sr. and a brother Roland McClellan Jr.
Dennis loved his family and friends dearly. Most of all he loved the Lord; he would say “I am a winner either way, if I go or if I stay.” Anyone that knew Dennis knew that he had a love for sports. He refereed for over 40 years and coached little league baseball and basketball; he had a group of fine young men he called “his boys” and loved them with all his heart.
He is survived by his mother; Crandle Weatherman McClellan, of Ingalls; his loving wife of 28 years, Sandy Hunter McClellan, of Hendersonville; four children: Melissa and Jessica Harwood, of Hendersonville, Malcom Harwood, of Asheville and Sam McClellan, of Mars Hill; one grandson; Drew Dean, of Hendersonville; extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28th at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Darrin Waldroup, Pastor Adam Edwards and Pastor Phillip Young Blood will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Avery County Parks and Recreational Department at 185 Shady Street, Newland, NC 28657. A special thank you to Doctor Austin at Messino Cancer Center and Joshua Newton for the care they gave Dennis.
