Mary Will Garland

Mary Will Garland, age 80, of the Indian Creek Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 24th, 2025, at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Wilburn Thomas McPeters and Rosa Lee Shepherd McPeters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Glenn Garland; three brothers: Wilburn McPeters, Clifford McPeters and Johnny McPeters; sisters: Alice Elkins and Helen Austin.

Mary Will lived her life as a devout Christian and her life always reflected that. She was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. She worked at Baxters for several years. Mary Will enjoyed going to the Senior Center, she was a giver at heart and a friend to all. But her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ricky Garland (Pat) of Bald Creek and Rodney Garland (Tyrina) of Indian Creek; three grandsons:  Brandon Garland of Bald Creek, Stuart Garland of Indian Creek and Jacob Garland (Saylee) of Indian Creek; one granddaughter; Charity Bartlett (Seth) of Plum Branch; six great-grandchildren: Amber, Parker, Ella, Emerson, Isla and Esther; one sister, Joann Goforth (Haven) of Asheville.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 29th in the Indian Creek Baptist Church.  Pastor Charlie Foster and Brother Josh Hoyle will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. prior to the service at the Church.  A graveside service will  follow in the Shepherd Family Cemetery.
