Mitchell Historical Society Hurricane Helene Presentation with Expert Geologist Alex Glover

The Mitchell County Historical Society is pleased to invite the public to its June program, “Hurricane Helene and its Geological Impact on the Toe River Valley.” The event will feature a presentation by distinguished professional geologist and foremost expert on the Spruce Pine Mining District, Alex Glover. Glover holds licenses as a Professional Geologist in three southern US states and is recognized as a Senior Honored Fellow of The Geological Society of America and a Certified Professional Geologist of the American Association of Professional Geologists among other attributes.

With a 45-year career in the mining industry, Glover will share interesting insights into the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene on our area. The presentation will include pathway mapping of the storm and photo documentation of the damage caused by this 1,300-year storm event with lots of pictures and background information.

This informative and engaging evening is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about the geological effects of Hurricane Helene and its lasting impact on the region. The event will take place on June 10, 2025 at the Mitchell County Senior Center at 7 pm.
