The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is warning residents about a rise in fraudulent text message scams. These texts falsely claim to be from the NCDMV and may demand payment for fees, fines, or tolls.
Important: The NCDMV will never request payment through text messages.
If you receive a suspicious message:
-
Do not click any links or share personal information.
-
Report it as spam and delete the message immediately.
How to protect yourself:
-
Be wary of unsolicited texts asking for money or personal details.
-
Confirm any requests through official NCDMV channels.
-
Report scam texts to your wireless provider or file a complaint at ftc.gov/complaint.
