Last Wednesday, May 28th, the Bakersville community came together to celebrate and take the next step towards rebuilding after Hurricane Helene at the Recover, Rebuild, and Renew Bakersville event. Over 250 attendees enjoyed a barbeque dinner, live music, and the opportunity to connect with the Design Assistance Team (DAT), a group of community planning experts from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Studio Gang. Assisting also were members of NC State’s Engineers Without Borders.
This event followed a series of meetings between the DAT and local representatives from government, law enforcement, fire departments, and community service organizations. The team is working to create a comprehensive plan to support Bakersville’s near and long-term future, incorporating community input and addressing the town’s unique challenges and assets.
