Due to the extreme temperatures in our region, Duke Energy has asked for French Broad’s help in balancing the electric load from 2PM–8PM today and tomorrow. This is Phase 1 of a 3-phase plan to keep the power grid stable and avoid outages.
Here’s what you need to know:
⚡ Phase 1 (Current) – Voluntary conservation. Please reduce energy usage between 2PM–8PM (delay laundry, limit AC use, turn off lights/devices you’re not using).
⚠️ Phase 2 (NOT Active) – Mandatory voltage reduction by Duke Energy, which could cause you to notice things like lights dimming briefly and motors not working as efficiently.
🚨 Phase 3 (NOT Active) – Controlled rolling outages if needed to protect the grid.
Let’s all do our part to lighten the load. Every bit helps. Stay cool, stay safe, and thank you for helping us keep the lights on. 💡
