Lloyd “Avon” Allen, age 88, of Rocky Spring Heights, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 27th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late James Gotch and Maefrie Boone Allen. He was also preceded in death by four brothers: Andrew Allen and wife, Betty; Max Allen and wife, Linda; Lenny Allen and Tilson Allen.
For 65 beautiful years, Avon shared a loving marriage with his beloved wife, Imajean. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work, faith and family. Avon served his country honorably in the United States Army, and dedicated many years of loyal service to French Broad Electric Membership Corporation as a serviceman. A true giver, Avon’s life revolved around doing for others – whether it was his neighbors, his community or, most importantly, his family. He enjoyed farming, but if you asked him what his real hobby was, he would say it was work. He took great pride in providing for his wife, daughter, grandson, and great-granddaughters. His talents as an organizer, provider and giver were unmatched, and he carried the quiet strength of a man who could be counted on for anything at any time.
His greatest joy, however, was his family whom he dearly loved. He adored his grandson, Matthew, and they had a special bond that brought him much pride and happiness. He was his family’s rock and protector, and one of his proudest accomplishments was providing land for them so that each one would have a place to call home. His presence here will be missed, but the life he built and the love he gave will live on in all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Imajean Ray Allen; his cherished daughter, Tina Hall, and her husband, Randy; his beloved grandson, Matthew Hall and wife, Haley; and two very special great-granddaughters, Madalyn and Harper Hall, all of Burnsville. He is also survived by two brothers: James Allen of Charleston, SC and Eugene Allen of Barnardsville; sister, Linda Huntley of Fairview, and sister-in-law, Teresa Allen of Florida, as well as several extended family members and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd at Yancey Funeral Services, followed by a procession to the Allen Family Cemetery at 31 Burleson Branch Road in Barnardsville where a graveside service will be held. Rev. Randal Phillips will officiate.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Compassionate Care WNC, especially to Kim Ogle, for the wonderful care given to Avon, and request that memorial donations be made to Compassionate Care WNC at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
