
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has surpassed the milestone of clearing 8 million cubic yards of debris in western North Carolina from Hurricane Helene that hit last Septmber. Currently, nearly 180 Army soldiers and civilians are deployed on the mission, coordinating the efforts of 500-plus contract workers throughout nine active counties. The targeted completion date for majority of Waterway Debris Removal was July 31, 2025, and is Aug. 31, 2025 for the Private Property Debris Removal mission.
