FEMA Debris Removal Applications Open in Yancey County

Yancey County residents impacted by Hurricane Helene can now apply for FEMA’s Private Property Debris Removal Program. In person applications will be accepted Monday, July 7 through Wednesday, July 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Yancey County Senior Center, located at 503 Medical Campus Drive in Burnsville.

The program offers assistance with the removal of storm-generated debris from private property, roads, and driveways. It also includes the demolition of hazardous structures.

Debris eligible for removal includes vegetative debris, construction and demolition materials, household hazardous waste, and white goods such as appliances.

Applicants must bring several required documents, including their most recent tax record, a valid ID, a utility bill from the time of the event, and a copy of their homeowner’s insurance policy. Those requesting demolition services must also bring a copy of their house deed.
