Warren “Jerry” Guinn

Warren “Jerry” Guinn of Elk Park, NC passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 4th, 2025.

Jerry was born on February 19th, 1946 at Cannon Hospital in Banner Elk, NC. After graduating Cranberry High School in 1964, he married his loving wife of sixty-one years, Sandra Hughes Guinn. They shared two children and gained two more: Eric and Debbie Guinn of Roaring Creek, NC and Heather Guinn and her fiancé, Steve Tolley of Hampton, TN. He has one surviving sister, Amy Jo Guinn.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella Woods McKinney of Elk Park, NC and his father, Warren Edward Guinn Jr of Marietta, SC. Jerry was also preceded in death by two sisters, Brenda Winters of Roan Mountain, TN and Kaye Guinn of Greenville, SC.

Jerry was an active member of Elk Park Christian Church and past Master and current member of Cranberry Masonic Lodge where he served as Master of the Lodge in 1983 and was currently serving as the Junior Wardon. Jerry worked hard to provide for his family, having worked as a truck driver for several years before retiring from the Avery/Mitchell Department of Corrections

Jerry had a multifaceted life. He loved to paint and was an incredible artist. Many of his works featured the beautiful mountain and river landscapes of the place where he lived and loved, Avery County. He loved to tell stories of his colorful childhood and historical “information” passed down in his family about Elk Park and the surrounding area. Jerry loved the holidays and his family celebrating each one with fun family traditions, generally involving food.

Services for Jerry will be held on Tuesday, July 8th at Elk Park Christian Church, Elk Park, NC. Friends will be received from 11 am until 12 noon with services to follow. Reverend Chris Hughes and Reverend Jonathon Sheppard will officiate. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Cranberry Masonic Lodge #598 A.F. & A.M. at Upper Hughes Cemetery, Roaring Creek, NC.
