Get ready for an afternoon of fun, fitness, figures, and community spirit this Satuday from 10am to noon on the Burnsville Town Square! The Yancey County Health Department and Appalachian Performing Arts invite folks of all ages to enjoy classic yard games, fun activities, and Southern Appalachian dancing during the Sizzlin’ Summer Series.
Get some energy out with movement and play on a fun kids’ obstacle course. Kids of all ages can take an artistic break and get their faces painted. Or relax with some classic yard games like cornhole that the entire family can enjoy.
Bring your dancing shoes, because Appalachian Performing Arts will also hold a community square dance! Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or trying it for the first time, you’ll learn traditional Southern Appalachian dance figures and even try a few clogging steps. Come with a partner, your whole crew, or solo—everyone is welcome to join in the fun!
Swing by the Toe River Valley Regional Library Bookmobile and find a book to keep your summer fun going at home. And mark your calendars, because next week on August 1st and 2nd the Yancey County Chamber of Commerce will host the 69th Annual Mount Mitchell Crafts Fair in Burnsville from 9am to 5pm.
A program of Partners Aligned Toward Health, Healthy Yancey is a partnership of concerned citizens working together to improve the quality of health for all people in Yancey County. Healthy Yancey developed the Sizzlin’ Summer Series to promote connections between neighbors and people, increase physical activity, and create fun ways to play and be active in our community. Sizzlin’ Summer Series activities are appropriate for ALL ages and abilities and are completely FREE!
Thank you to Yancey County Health Department and Appalachian Performing Arts for making this week’s event possible. We also appreciate the title sponsor AdventHealth, as well as the Town of Burnsville and Yancey County Government for their support and sponsorship which make the 2025 Sizzlin’ Summer Series possible.
