Michael Ray McKinney age 66 of Little Switzerland went home to be with his Heavenly Father on July 20th 2025.
Mike was born on February 11th 1959 to the late Claude Grady McKinney and Katie Ann Larkins McKinney of Little Switzerland.
Mike loved his Lord and Savior with his whole heart. He was always strong in his faith and would always witness to people no matter where he was at. If you knew Mike you knew he loved his Lord.
Mike a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Mike worked as a welder for Brad Ragan/Good Year in Spruce Pine for many years.
Mike also enjoyed farming, woodworking and playing his guitar. Another favorite pass time was spending time with his little Willow Grace. In his later years he went to school and got his degree in gunsmithing. He then went to teach gunsmithing at Mayland Community College. He also had his own gunsmithing business at his home where he loved meeting new people and making great friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 36 years Brenda H. McKinney, Son Scotty (Angie) McKinney of Spruce Pine, Son Matthew McKinney of Spruce Pine. Stepdaughter Brandy Geouge of Little Switzerland, Sister Melody (Byron) Hughes of Spruce Pine, Stepsister Claudia (Late Craig), Emerson of Virginia, Grandchildren Willow Grace, Gabby and Tanner. Niece Chloe. Also, many other nieces and nephews.
A Special thank you to all of the Blue Ridge Hospice team for their loving care of mike during his sickness. A very special thank you to Barbara Ann Stagg for her wonderful and loving care.
A service will be held on Friday July 25th at 12:00pm at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
