Orchard at Altapass Welcomes First Apples and Summer Music

the-orchard-9

The Orchard at Altapass has officially launched into apple season with our first harvests of Transparents, Magnum Bonums, and an outstanding crop of Early Junes. The season began with the return of our beloved u-pick tours, where guests ventured into the orchard to pick fresh apples under the bright summer sky.

As we head into August, we continue with our Live Music at the Orchard series every Saturday and Sunday in August, from 2 PM to 4 PM. This month’s live music performances will feature such local favorites as The Dollar Brothers, Split Rail Bluegrass, Sound Traveler, and more. These events offer the perfect blend of music, fresh apples, and gorgeous mountain views. For a full schedule of performances, visit www.altapassorchard.org/events.

On August 8, the Orchard will host a traditional Ballad Swap Fundraiser from 6 PM to 8 PM, featuring local musicians Donna Ray Norton, Sheila Kay Adams, and William Ritter. Recently highlighted in a Rolling Stone article, this talented trio will perform cherished ballads passed down through generations, celebrating the rich musical heritage of Appalachia. “We consider ourselves privileged to host such a wonderful celebration of our Appalachian heritage,” said Sam McKinney, Orchard Mission & Sustainability Manager. “We are at risk of losing so many of these treasured songs passed from generation to generation, and we are excited to do a small part in keeping the Ballad Swap alive.” Tickets for this event are $10 at the door.
