Reach new heights this Saturday from 10am-2pm during the Sizzlin’ Summer Series! There will be something for everyone on the Burnsville Town Square from an awesome rock climbing wall, to energetic REFIT Dance, to upbeat bluegrass music, fun theater games, and an original play by THRIVE Appalachia’s hardworking teens!

There will be a FREE rock climbing wall from 10am-2pm and all ages are welcome to climb, explore new heights, or race each other to the top! That’s right, adults are encouraged to climb, especially alongside the youngsters in their lives. With experienced staff on site, you can safely take part in the thrill of climbing.

But the fun doesn’t stop there as THRIVE Appalachia teens will take center stage with a special 10-minute performance of “A Peanut Butter Story.” It’s a heartwarming and humorous original play written and directed by 16-year-old Kayla Cody and performed by THRIVE’s talented teen theater ensemble. Afterwards, prepare to be wowed by the next generation of mountain music as THRIVE’s new teen bluegrass ensemble — under the direction of Music Director Kevin Scanlon — fills the square with toe-tapping tunes and harmonies. Want more? Check out improvisational theater games featuring audience suggestions, an unpredictable and hilarious showcase of quick wit and creativity. Plus, get moving with energetic REFIT dance fitness, led by Morgan. You can even find a story that will take your imagination to new heights at the Toe River Valley Library Bookmobile.

And don’t forget on Saturday, August 16 from 10am to 2pm the Yancey County Sheriff’s Department in collaboration with Yancey County Schools will host the the final Sizzlin’ Summer Series event, an exciting Back to School Bash on the town square!
