Pauline Street Jenkins, age 88, of Hughes Gap Road in Bakersville, the Buladean Community, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at the Center on Aging and Health in Erwin, Tennessee.
Born on August 6, 1936 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Frances Ingram Street. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband; W.S. ‘Dub’ Jenkins. Also preceding her in death was her son; Rev. Scotty Jenkins, her brothers; Arthur, Roy, Wilder, Wilson, Halder, Ed, Fred, and Charles Street, an infant sister; Josie Venia Street and a special niece, Beth Jenkins Hughes.
Pauline was a member of the Middle District Freewill Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, a deacon’s wife and a preacher’s mother. She was a graduate of Tipton Hill High School. She organized the Mitchell County Transportation Department and had twenty-three years of service in her department, and she was also the first woman to serve as a department head in Mitchell County.
Pauline was rooted in her faith and was an avid reader. She was known as a wonderful cook and was always available for her family and friends in times of need. She enjoyed trips to the beach, loved to crochet and later in life she enjoyed coloring. She was a staunch Republican.
Left to cherish her memories are her brother; Henry Street and wife, Judy of Buladean, special niece; Florence Street of Johnson City, TN, sister-in-law; Amelia Street of Buladean, brother-in-law; Donald Jenkins of Baltimore, MD, special roommate; Nancy Kelsoe, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, church family and friends.
The funeral service for Pauline Jenkins will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 3:30 pm at the Middle District Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Blaine Whitson and the Rev. Kevin Laws officiating. Interment will be in the Charlie & Frances Street Family Cemetery with Sean Hobson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 2:00 pm until the service hour at Middle District Freewill Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to; Middle District Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, C/O: Johnny Moffitt, 1378 Hughes Gap Road, Bakersville, NC 28705.
The family would like to extend a ‘Special Thank You’ to all of the staff of the Center on Aging and Health in Erwin, TN for their exceptional care of Pauline, Amedisys Hospice and also to Kevin Laws for always being there for Pauline.
