Friday, August 8th, state and local officials and family members gathered to honor the memory of North Carolina State Trooper Brandon C. Peterson with the dedication of a bridge on U.S. 19E at the Yancey/Mitchell County line. Trooper Peterson who passed away unexpectedly at age 31, on April 7, 2017 was commemorated with a sign near Crabtree Road that now reads “Master Trooper Brandon C Peterson Bridge.”
The North Carolina Board of Transportation unanimously approved the resolution to name the bridge in his honor, according to the NCDOT.
A 2004 graduate of Mitchell High Peterson served eight years in the North Carolina National Guard before joining the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in 2008. Peterson dedicated his entire career to serving Trooper G, District 1, which includes Avery, Madison, Mitchell and Yancey counties, NCDOT said.
